Skinny World is a short film based on a true story that has been made to open up the discussion around eating disorders. Everyone involved in the film; cast, crew and everyone who kindly offered a location or service has been affected either directly or known someone who has been affected by an eating disorder. We are using this special evening to raise money for BEAT, the UK's leading eating disorder charity and to screen our film for the first time, we are charging a small fee for the event to cover the costs of the location and any profits made will be given to Beat. The eating disorders charity, Beat, estimates that there are over 1.6 million people struggling with an eating disorder throughout the UK. Whilst many of these have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment, many more remain undiagnosed and at risk of their eating disorder becoming progressively worse and leading to a whole host of distressing symptoms and long-term problems. The deniability, secrecy and stigma associated with eating disorders can stop many people from seeking the help that they need, and may prevent others from taking responsibility to help a sufferer. This is why we have created the film Skinny World and we aim to try and help to destroy the stigma around eating disorders.
